Matthew 10- The Twelve Chosen: Matthew 10:1-4:- Disciples (v. 1), apostles, (v. 2)- these terms are interchangeable for the first twelve!!! Yeshua gave them authority to perform miracles and trample serpents, casting out demons!!! See Mark 6:7- they were sent out two by two!!!
Mission and Instructions: Matthew 10:5-15: The Mission of the Twelve is that of Christ's is own mission: To preach (v. 7) and to heal (v. 8): Yeshua sends them only to the Jews: Yeshua's earthly ministry was focused on the Jews (Matthew 15:24): so, that, after the Resurrection, the Jews could not blame the disciples for going to uncirumcised men (Acts 11:3): Yeshua wants them to be simple minded see my video commentary for further summary!!!
10:12-13: Christ commissions His servants to give greeting of peace, the same peace that was proclaimed by the prophets (Isaiah 52:7): that He would offer to the disciples (John 14:27; 20:19), and that would be revealed as a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22)- see video commentary for further discussions!!!
Persecution and Martyrdom: 10:16: Matthew 10:16-23: Jesus instructs the disciples to be wise as serpents but harmless as doves!!! See video commentary for further discussion and summary!!!- 10:23: Persecution can not be a reason we quit any of us, the disciples and the apostles never quit so we shouldn't either!!! We called to move forward in our Mission with Christ just like the disciples and apostles did so long ago!!!
