Good evening. Great is His faithfulness.

This evenings blended readings -

Jesus Preaches in Galilee- Matthew 4:23-25; Mark 1:35-39; & Luke 4:42-44

Jesus Heals a Leper- Matthew 8:2-4; Mark 1:40-45; Luke 5:12-16

Jesus Heals a Paralytic- Matthew 9:1-8; Mark 2:1-12; Luke 5:17-26

The Calling of a Tax Collector- Matthew 9:9-13; Mark 2:13-17; Luke 5:27-32

The Parable of Wineskins - Matthew 9:14-17; Mark 2:18-22; Luke 5:33-39

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath- John 5:1-9

This evenings reflection begins with faith, because faith is an indispensable condition- meaning it's absolutely necessary for our salvation. We see in the healing of the paralytic that faith is collective as well as personal- the paralytic's friends helped in their friends healing because the faith they had was beautiful and full of hope. We see the same type of faith and the Lord's healing of the leper, when the leper said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." What a beautiful question by the leper showing his faith and compassion, the leper was full of hope and belief. Jesus heals him showing us He is not bound by the Law, because He is the Law of Moses. Jesus also asked the leper not to tell anyone of his healing, because our Lord did not seek His own glory, instead our Lord was seeking the glory of God, but Jesus knew the man would proclaim the good news, Jesus was setting the example that His Father truly sent Him to do the works He was sent to do.

The last thing that stood out me was isolation many of the people we read about tonight suffered from isolation and total banishment from all of society. Isolation is bad for faith and healing, and we all need friends like the paralytic who do not isolate us but instead is active in our healing both physical as well as spiritual.

“You make golden chalices, but fail to offer cups of cold water to the needy. Christ, as a homeless stranger, is wandering around and begging, and instead of receiving Him you make decorations.” ~ St. John Chrysostom

Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,

And be gracious to you;

26 The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you,

And give you peace.” ’
